Ring Of Bells in Taunton - Application to be Demolished

Tuesday 22 July 2025

Hello,

It is with deep sorrow for me to share that the current owner of the Ring Of Bells, Ashcott is seeking to demolish the pub to build 6 houses. The pub's main building dates from the 18th century and the skittle alley was carefully rebuilt for accessibility. It would be a devastating lose for the community and Somerset.

My parents John and Elaine Foreman together with my uncle John Sharman ran a very successful business their only retiring in 2021. The current owner (a publican) has not opened the business sufficiently. The pub was trading fine under my family and got through COVID providing the village with take aways and opened when allowed. The pub has not been offered for sale.

The council are open to receiving comments on the planning application until 25 July 2025. The council themselves used to use it for meetings.

My family worked with CAMRA in the past to support local brewers and the local economy. I will be putting in an objection and would appreciate any sharing of the news about the potential demolition of the pub or any support CAMRA can offer.

Best wishes,

Claire Foreman
