CAMRA recognises West Somerset Pubs as best in the county
Real ale campaign recognises West Somerset pubs as best in the county.
WEST Somerset public houses have excelled in this year’s annual awards given by the Somerset branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The Star Inn in Watchet is a regular Runner-Up in Somerset Pub of the Year.
The 2025 ‘pub of the year’ title went to the Ship Inn, Porlock, known in the village as the ‘Top Ship’, with Watchet’s Pebbles Tavern also being a finalist.
Pebbles then went on to win the ‘cider pub of the year’ 2025 award, a title which CAMRA acknowledged it won ‘most years’.
Almost making it a hat-trick of West Somerset triumphs was the Esplanade Club, in Watchet, which was a finalist in the 2025 ‘club of the year’ category.
A pub in Huish Episcopi has been named the UK’s most Instagram-famous quirky pub. The Rose and Crown is a Grade 2 listed 17th-century thatched inn.
New research by Photo and Video Edits has revealed the country's most popular quirky drinking spots based on the number of hashtags dedicated to them. From time-capsule thatched taverns, to record shop bars and haunted hideaways, the UK is home to some of the most unique and characterful pubs.
The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) describes The Rose and Crown on its website: "A Grade 2 listed 17th-century thatched inn known locally as 'Eli's' after the former owner Eli Scott who took over the family pub in 1920 and the pub is still in the same family. The hub of the pub is the rare counterless flagstoned taproom (one of only eight left in UK) which leads out to four cosy parlours. West room, Piano room, Mens kitchen, Fire room.
